PhD in Skeletal Biology

The three-year course aimed to prepare students for the application of new techniques for the study of skeletal tissues; to develop trans-disciplinary skills to address complex questions related to skeletal biomechanics and mechanobiology, and to prepare students for fieldwork in bioanthropology and forensic anthropology.

During the first year, students will learn macro and microanatomy of the skeleton, bone tissue architecture and composition, bone development, and age-related changes. During the course, the students will work in the laboratory and will be introduced to the basic lab methods in bone research. This course also focuses on bone and joint diseases, including pathohistological appearance and medical imaging. In the second year, students can choose one of the two streams: 1) Biomechanics and Mechanotransduction and Orthopedic Aspects of Bone Fragility, or 2) Bioanthropology and Forensic Anthropology.
